George Oldendorph journals, 1867-1872.

Manuscript journals (3) containing details of a trip to California via Panama from his home in Waterloo, Ill. and a railroad trip to Pilot Knob, Mo. on the St. Louis and Toon Mountain Railroad. A portion of the journal is written in German and titled "Das Vangard flunf [?]." Includes an account book for pay and expenses while employed as an engineer on the Steamer Neponset: G.W. Case shipmaster. Includes typescript transcription of account book. The third journal with stylus (Pacific Diary, 1870) has sparse entries with a few small sketches with measurements. Also includes black and white photographs (3). Two are of George Oldendorph (age 16 and 42). The third photograph is of three men outside a tent (possibly pointing pistols at the camera in a posed shot) in a wooded area.
